Well, jap buffets are a common thing among us nowadays, so we went to yet another one today! Don’t misunderstand my title, it does not mean that this buffet was not nice or anything. It simply means that we’re trying more and more buffets. To the list of Ikoi, Hanabi, Himawari, Kuishinbo, we welcome our new addition of Minori! It’s located at UE Square at Clemenceau Avenue, and is rather near Clarke Quay MRT. I say rather because, distance can be quite subjective to each person, so yea it is rather near. Went there with the usual of Huijing and Nick, together with Melinda+Charles. Met Huijing, Mel & Charles at Clarke Quay and took a cab to UE square from there. The fare was only $3.00, and Huijing did say that she heard the uncle snigger when we told him the place. Oh well, he earns $3, while we save walking time and energy, so I guess it’s a win-win situation. I know I took photos of the menu of Hanabi the last time round, but this time, when you have a link straight to the menu off their official webpage, why should I bother. Jump over here to check out the menu.

As for photos of the food, let’s just put it in perspective. It was Grabbing my handphone to snap photos when the food arrived VS Grabbing my chopsticks to dig into the food when it arrived. No prizes for guessing who won. Okay okay, I promise I’ll try and take photos the next time we go! Anyway, we ate the usual of lotsa sashimi, and then the rest. I don’t know about you, but Jap Buffets to me are more or less about lotsa sashimi, and then the rest. Okay, the rest included stuff like soba, tempura, handrolls, maki sushis, and some other special stuff like Pumpkin with Special Sweet Sauce, Salmon with Special Sauce, Peach Fresh Green Salad etc… Overall, I would say that the buffet was reasonably priced, with a great variety of food too. The restaurant was not very crowded while we were there, but who are we to complain when we get prompter service.

After that, we took a bus to China Town and had a foot reflexology and shoulder massage for 45 mins package. It did hurt, but I guess the reflexologists might get kicks out of hearing people wince in pain. I didn’t really wince in pain, but just chose to close my eyes so I didn’t have to do idle chatter with the reflexologist, unlike Mel who had a reflexologist who was rather chatty, to say the least. Anyway, after the reflexology session, they went to town while I took the MRT home. The worse thing was that i was greeted by a heavy downpour when I walked out of the MRT station. The walkway was slippery and there was water running down the inclined walkway. So in the end, I decided to take a cab home, since even taking the bus I would have to walk in the rain for quite some distance from the bus stop to my house. The cab fare was $5.15. Compared to the $3 we paid when the 4 of us shared the cab, I would say that this was rather high for a slightly longer distance. Oh well, at least I got home not-that-wet.

Well, as the title says, Happy Birthday Huijing! Her birthday was really yesterday, but since we only celebrated with her today so I can only post this today! Well not really, but since it’s my blog so what I say goes. We celebrated her birthday at Sushi Tei @ Serangoon Gardens, having our weekly japanese food review once again. No, we don’t really have a weekly japanese food review. It’s just coincidental that Sushi Tei was picked. Anyway, it must have been a long time since I’ve been to Serangoon Gardens. Anyone else sees the irony when people from all over Singapore come to Serangoon Gardens to dine at the various famous eateries and here I am, staying just a 5 mins walk away, and I hardly step foot there. I didn’t even know that a cold storage, and various new eateries have popped up there!

Anyway, back on topic to our Belated Birthday Girl. She has gotta be the funniest girl on earth. Not that she’s good at cracking jokes or anything, but the stuff she does and says… All I can say is I don’t know if I should laugh or cry sometimes. Well, rather that believing what I say, I shall give you some examples!

One fine day on IRC…
[12:34:21] <ching> i went for a wedding dinner
[12:34:23] <ching> one day in advance man

Last week at Hanabi…
nick to her: How’s the Kimchi Ramen?
nick sees her facial expression, then says: Not nice?
her to nick: It’s not not nice, just not nice.

Another fine day on IRC…
[19:55:52] <ching> LOL
[19:55:55] <ching> ooops
[19:56:03] <ching> it was suppose to be a lol

And the list goes on… See what I mean when I say I don’t know if I should laugh or cry? At the end of the day, she’ll still be our “funniest” friend :)

Well, some photos of the birthday cake…

My handphone camera has a countdown function! Too bad the angle is too low…

Wait a minute, we can use stack plates to raise the camera up! Have I told you how useful plates are?

Sashimi! My Favourite :)

Went to Hanabi @ King’s Arcade with Huijing and Nick for a Japanese Buffet Lunch yesterday. Well, the food was great and the price was okay, considering the 3 of us have also tried more expensive places like Ikoi and Himawari. Well, the spread you can see from the menu photos that I’ve uploaded, so I won’t go into too much detail on those. My favourite was definitely, the salmon sashimi. I mean, I could never get tired of eating sashimi over and over again, and the sashimi here was sweet and fresh. I know, I’m not exactly the food critic but yes I enjoyed the sashimi here. The price, was at $26++ per pax, which works out to be around $30 with GST and Service Charge included. Of course, if you decide to add some green tea ice cream or some other desserts, that would add more to your bill. Overall, I feel the food here had quite a nice variety, and the price was definitely worth it.

And so now here I am, back down to earth after the Jap Buffet. I just finished a project presentation yesterday, well yesterday only because it’s 1.20am now. That presentation marks the end of a module, and therefore that’s 4MCs off my workload now! Also, I finished another module which was a 100% project about 1.5 weeks ago, and that one was 6MCs. That means, I’ve already got 10MCs completed! Therefore, I only have 3 papers to worry about, and these too seem to be easy enough. 1 paper has a weightage of 50%, and the other 50% consisted of projects which have already been done. Another paper has a weightage of 80%, with 20% of labs also done. The last module, seems to be my most worrying. The paper is a mere 30%, and consists of 40 MCQs. So what’s the worry you might ask? Well, the other 70% is a project, and while other people started their projects as early as week 4, I procrastinated and delayed the start of this project until like, let’s see…, last week! Therefore, I don’t know if I should be happy that I only have 3 papers, or that I should be sad that I still have the project to be done. Oh well, I guess I should look on the bright side and think that the exam workload for this year is significantly lighter than the rest :)
